Creating Healthy Habits: Small Steps, Big Stress Relief
This weekend, I found myself at a baby shower — balloons, cupcakes, adorable little onesies — and in the middle of all that sweetness, I was reminded of one of my favorite sayings:
Drink the coffee while it’s hot.
I was catching up with a friend — someone who juggles a family and owns not one, but two businesses in the service industry. A few playful jokes were thrown around about her schedule and how she somehow manages to keep it all together without spontaneously combusting.
She laughed, raised her cup, and said, “I drink my coffee while it’s hot,” with a little wink in my direction. And we both just got it.
That simple sentence sparked a great conversation between me and her sister. We started talking about how important it is to carve out even just a few minutes for yourself every day. Not hours. Not a whole spa day. Just a moment to be with yourself.
Because when we don’t? We notice.
We snap quicker.
We lose patience.
We feel like we’re drowning in everyone else’s needs but our own.
And here’s the thing — it’s not about the coffee (though that helps). It’s about the habit.
That tiny act of choosing yourself.
That moment of silence before the world pulls you in ten directions.
Today’s Challenge:
Let’s keep it simple this Monday.
Drink your coffee while it’s hot.
Don’t microwave it. Don’t forget where you left it. Don’t take it to-go in the car while answering emails at red lights.
Pour it.
Sit down.
Be with yourself for just two minutes.
Because sometimes the smallest acts of self-care are the ones that keep us from falling apart.
