Press Pause: Ignore the To-Do List
There is always something to do.
At work, the to-do list never sleeps. At home, the chores seem to multiply — for every two things you cross off, five more magically appear. Whether it’s tasks, emails, errands, or laundry, the list doesn’t end. And that raises the big question:
How the heck are we supposed to take a break when there’s always something to do?
Here’s the truth: You can pause — and sometimes, you must.
Let me offer two quick reminders that help me when the to-do list feels never-ending:
Remember who you're working so hard for.
Remember why you're doing it.
You have goals, dreams, ambitions — sure. But ultimately, they’re about who you want to spend your life with, and how you want to spend it.
That’s why this past weekend, we pressed pause. We put the house projects, work responsibilities, and BBQ plans on hold. Instead, we got away.
We hiked.
We rode bikes.
We sat by the fire.
And most importantly — we laughed.
Those few days didn’t erase the to-do list. But they reminded us why the to-do list even exists.
Today’s Challenge: Take a Small Break Anyway
Maybe a weekend getaway isn’t in the plans (or the budget) right now. Totally fair.
But what about a 30-minute lunch break? Not the kind where you scroll your phone while eating at your desk. I mean a real, human moment — maybe lunch with a co-worker, or a FaceTime call with a friend.
The to-do list will keep growing. Life will keep moving.
But this week, challenge yourself to take off the “work hat” or “chore hat” for a little while — and make time for someone you care about. Because in the end, it’s not about getting everything done.
It’s about living while you do it.
